Laser Process Technologist

The Frederick BP Solar location is a vertically integrated facility with the full range of solar manufacturing operations, including:  silicon casting, silicon ingot cutting, wafering, solar cell processing, and module assembly.  BP Solar is increasing the R&D effort in the area of advanced photovoltaic devices with the goal of developing new high performance solar cells that can be manufactured at relatively low costs.

 



This position will involve the development of laser processes for new high performance photovoltaic devices with the emphasis on improving the device efficiency while utilizing processing techniques that have the potential for low manufacturing costs.  The position will involve the operation and maintenance of a Nd-YAG laser processing system.  The individual will also be involved in fabricating and characterizing new device structures, and the candidate will interact with BP Solar scientists and technologists that are developing new techniques for growing crystalline silicon. 

 

The individual will assist in the preparation of technical reports and presentations as required by government contract, technology, or operations departmental reporting procedures. 

 



At least 5 years of specific experience involving the laser processing of semiconductor or other materials. Specific knowledge regarding the fabrication and characterization of silicon solar cells or other semiconductor devices is desirable. 

 

Specific experience with characterization tools and techniques for evaluating the properties of silicon materials and solar cells. Conversant with the thin-film deposition processes such as sputtering and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition.

 



Graduate degree in materials physics, electrical engineering, materials science, or a related field, or a B.S. with relevant experience.
