Lean Engineer

Position Title: Lean Engineer 

 

Department: Operations 

 

Reports to:  Lean Coordinator

 

Position Summary:  Support the corporate-wide initiatives in becoming a lean organization through the implementation of lean concepts such as cellular manufacturing, 5S, visual workplace, total productive maintenance, set-up reduction, and kanban replenishment systems.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

Essential Functions:Promote, develop and assist in the implementation of the lean manufacturing initiativeTrain both hourly and salaried employees in lean manufacturing systems and proceduresAssist in optimization of floor layout, material flow, and manufacturing processesDocument improvements to manufacturing efficiencies, takt time, floor space utilization Facilitate kaizen events to ensure the proper use of lean toolsCollect information on target areas prior to kaizen eventsMonitor and track on-going continuous improvement and cost reduction programsTake a hands-on approach to ensuring all procedures and lean initiatives are followed by factory associates, Supervisors, Manufacturing Engineering, etc.Develop, monitor, and maintain standard work proceduresConduct line balancing for optimization of cell layout Create & maintain mechanisms to monitor productivity for all manufacturing areas Assist in the implementation of 5S and visual workplaceTrain and develop shop floor associates, Supervisors, Manufacturing Engineering, etc. in the concepts of lean manufacturingSupports safety, OSHA and EPA requirementsEvaluate current manufacturing systems to determine areas for improvement Prepare capital requests and cost justifications to support recommendations

Qualifications:

 

Education: Bachelor?s degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering or manufacturing engineering or 10 plus years of experience in implementing lean manufacturing concepts
