Manager Design Engineer

A Fortune 500 consumer products manufacturing has partnered with OutHire, an executive search firm, to recruit a Manager Design Engineer. The best candidate will provide leadership and guidance in a supervisory capacity to Design Engineers for both new product design and the redesign of existing products.They will also manage product development by working with and maintaining schedules, budgets and product cost estimates.

The right candidate will ensure that products meet the design goals to fill the perceived need of the consumer. Some of the job duties include..
"?Product Concepts and Ideas "" Participates with Marketing and Sales in the refinement of product concepts, features, forms and retail costs of different products in different markets.
"?Project Management "" Coordinates the development of new products through cross-functional teams and effective application of a project management process. Ultimately responsible for ensuring that new products meet design, functionality, quality, cost, and schedule defined in the Business Plan.
"?New Product Focus "" Works with project teams to maintain a practical project scope that accommodates creative design and the requirements dictated by standards, retailer"&tm;s needs, manufacturing feasibility, financial constraints, performance requirements, and the placement of brand name and warnings.
"?Leads Design Engineers "" Guides local and international engineers in sorting out various creative design ideas and concepts by focusing their efforts on the required parameters such as reliability, safety, cost, size, weight, look and function
"?Product Safety, Standards and Reliability "" Ensures that products have been tested and evaluated for reliability by his team, and that they meet applicable codes and standards.
"?Patents "" Ensures that the patent process is carried out as needed.
"?Manufacturing Design "" Significantly contributes to the determination of manufacturing design requirements by analyses of such factors as production volumes, costs, and supplier quality.
"?Involvement in Production "" Supports manufacturing by direct involvement in the initial stages of production of new products or the redesigned elements of existing products. Initiates engineering change orders based on changes to be processed.
"?Human Resources Development "" Evaluates Design Engineering staff, including new members, and provides mentoring, training, and coaching where indicated.
"?Reduce/eliminate unnecessary costs on existing products.
"?Some domestic and international travel required.

Required Skills:
"?Bachelor"&tm;s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Plastics Engineering preferred).
"?Minimum of 5 years design and/or manufacturing experience in consumer products.
"?Experience with injection molding, blow molding, vacuum forming, and sheet extrusion as well as tooling associated with each of these processes.
"?Thorough knowledge and understanding of new product development life cycles.
"?Experience with high volume and cost sensitive products.
"?Excellent management, analytical, problem-solving, negotiation and decision-making skills required.
"?Previous personnel management preferred
