Manager - Maintenance and Facilities

Position Purpose:

The Manager ? Maintenance and Facilities is responsible for the maintenance of the equipment, which includes predictive maintenance and preventative maintenance, develops and implements operating improvements and complete maintenance service of the plant facility. Manages the daily sustaining activities of the facilities, maintenance, and tooling control functional group.  Develops and maintains required functional infrastructure.  Coordinates major equipment repairs, process installations and plant improvements utilizing both internal and external resources.  Leads and supports continuous process improvement and cost reduction projects. Complies with all OSHA and plant safety regulations and trains personnel on same. This position reports to the Director ? Manufacturing Engineering.

Key Responsibilities/Duties

1) Functional Sustaining Activities

a)  Maintenance and Tooling Management

i)  Directs the Maintenance Supervisor and Tooling Technician.

ii)  Responsible for timely and effective performance of all equipment, facility and utility repairs.

iii) Accountable for effective production tooling supply chain management and control.

iv) Accountable for annual repair/maintenance and tooling budgets.

v) Develops, manages, and continuously improves functional infrastructure such as:

(a) Preventative Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance (PM) Program.

(b) Maintenance work order process.

(c) Production tooling inventory management and control processes

(d) Skills development and training programs.

(e) Departmental metrics.

vi) Responsible for establishing and meeting functional goals and objectives.

vii)  Performs annual performance appraisals for direct reports as required.

viii)  Responsible for the coordination and communication of activities with engineering, production, quality, and materials management.

ix)  Requests quotes for outside service, i.e., electrical, mechanical and trades contractors.

x)  Coordinates outside vendors or contractors services as needed.

xi)  Determines replacement parts, tooling and equipment components and assists with identification and procurement of machine components.

xii) Approves proper tools and equipment needs for the maintenance personnel.

xiii) Participates as a member of the Manufacturing Support Team (MST) and Material Review Board meetings.

xiv)  Works within ISO 9001 Design Control and Process Control requirements.

xv) Communicates design intentions and details to CAD Designers and Detailers in the development of tooling and machine component drawings.

xvi)  Responsible for appropriate and timely troubleshooting of production equipment issues. 

xvii)  Provides assistance to production to develop comprehensive operating procedures to improve production efficiency and product quality.

xviii) Develops and documents written standard operating procedures and methods on manufacturing processes.

xix) Trains production personnel on standard operating procedures.

2) Project Support

a) Leads continuous process improvement projects such as existing production equipment improvements, new process development, and facility/layout modifications utilizing Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.

b) Supports other continuous improvement and new product development projects which may include the implementation of new manufacturing processes.

c) Effectively supports design, development, and operation of manufacturing processes, machines, tooling, and documentation.



Job Requirements:

? Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in mechanical/electrical maintenance and plant engineering.

? 5 to 7 years in manufacturing and maintenance engineering.

? Experience in metal forming tubing industry and high-volume manufacturing is highly desirable.

? Comprehensive knowledge of general mechanical engineering and mechanical design principles and practices.

? Extensive project management experience in continuous improvement, product development and manufacturing environments.

? Practical experience applying Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to continuous improvement and new product introduction efforts is required.  Six Sigma Greenbelt preferred.

? Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office or equivalent software.  Experience with Microsoft Project software is a plus.

? Required to travel domestically and internationally.
