Manager, Mechanical Engineering (06-054)

SUMMARY:
Plan, direct and coordinate the overall engineering policies and activities. Coordinate the creation, design,development and improvement of automation systems in conformance with company programs and objectives and customer specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Provide leadership/support for Engineering staff to successfully execute projects.

Foster a strong customer satisfaction commitment.

Direct engineering design and execution of automation projects.

Participate in design reviews to ensure sound, valid engineering design.

Coordinate with other departments in matters pertaining to design, customer specifications, and system delivery and/or compliance (internal or external).

Establish priorities and schedules and prepare long and short range plans for engineering and design functions to successfully complete projects . Monitor and manage manpower forecast.

Assist in preparing annual departmental budget, and adhere to departmental budget constraints.

Coordinate engineering administrative functions; as required.

Monitor and manage project costs and execute to planned margins.

Train, motivate, and evaluate assigned employees.

Select new employees for hire as required.

Responsible for generating standard solutions to be used by all Motoman in Engineering applications. Assist in preparing annual plans to meet corporate and departmental goals.

Review policies and implement necessary process changes as required to create a more efficient work environment.

Has a sound understanding of electrical and/or mechanical systems.

Has a sound understanding of automated systems. Has a strong understanding of three or more automated processes along with application of those processes (i.e., welding, cutting, case packing, palletizing).

Reviews and approves Engineering Change Orders, Cost Tracking Sheets and Project Schedules in conjunction with project management.

May communicate directly with customer on contractual and technical issues.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree, Mechanical Engineering, and eight to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
