Akamai is looking for a technical leader to build and manage the Network Operations team at our Reston, VA facility, which will serve our growing government customer base. The ideal candidate will work as a player-coach, contributing directly to the activities managed by the team, as well as providing technical oversight and management. The manager will report to the Director of Network Operations.

The Network Operations team manages, monitors, and maintains Akamais deployed servers and switches. The team also performs software installation and configuration changes, develops tools and scripts for workflow management, and manages other projects related to the deployed network. The efficient and stable operation of our infrastructure is crucial in maintaining the high availability and unparalleled performance of our content delivery and application processing platform.

You will be actively involved in building out an Operations Support Center in our Reston, Virginia location "" this will include facilities build out and managing the technicians and engineers in the Network Operations team, to include assigning and evaluating work, managing performance, and assisting with career growth. You will work directly with stakeholders in defining processes and procedures necessary for maximum stability and availability of Akamai services. You will provide technical direction to the team and participate in the design and implementation of new services. You will work closely with government and coordinate with Akamai management and technical staff in Cambridge and San Mateo.

Required Skills:
* Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related engineering field
* Solid understanding of any Unix based system administration, such as Linux, Solaris, HP-UX or AIX
* Solid understanding of IP networking, DNS, streaming protocols and monitoring tools
* 8-10 years in a technical leadership role with experience working on large-scale projects with 5-8 years direct line management experience
* Prior background developing processes and procedures for workflow management in a high volume, transaction-processing environment
* Experience in the management and monitoring of distributed systems
* Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
* U.S. Citizenship with current security clearance required
