Manager, R&D

Job Summary

Accountable for product development and line extension of pre-fillable syringe systems and other pre-fillable drug delivery devices from concept to market launch to meet business objectives. Responsible for and contributes to cross-functional and cross-unit business activities. Participate in BD Medical unit R&D initiatives. Effectively select, develop, organize, motivate, and mentor staff. Organize and develop effective and efficient product development teams.

Maintain an overview of state-of-the-art technology development within the related business. Effectively leverage technical experts in addressing technical issues, providing technical direction, and advising on technical capabilities and mix of staff. Participate in the evaluation and assessment of competitive products, processes or new trends that could impact our business. Ensure compliance with BD quality policies, procedures, and practices through appropriate communication, training, and education of sound quality assurance principals, as well as with all local, state, federal, and BD safety regulations, policies, and procedures. Develop detailed budgets in accordance with project and department plans, and business objectives. Manage budget diligently and be accountable to perform to the budget.

Qualifications:

MS degree in related engineering field (Mechanical or Biomedical) required, advanced degree desired. A minimum of 9 years of progressive experience in engineering field, with 5 years demonstrated project leadership, and 3 years personnel supervision preferably in the pharmaceutical and/or medical device industry with successful track record of delivering products to market. In addition the ideal candidate will have strong organizational leadership skills, strong interpersonal and influence skills, advanced problem-solving skills, strong cross functional project leadership skills, strong technical and managerial judgment, and strong communication skills. Candidates must also be team oriented and have strong skills in project planning and management with a broad and deep understanding of disciplined product development processes, regulatory, and quality requirements.
