For over 50 years, Veridiam (www.veridiam.com) has been a major integrated product manufacturer of precision engineered, build-to-print tubing and tubular components for medical, aerospace and nuclear applications. Our precision tubing capabilities are housed in our 170,000-sq. ft. manufacturing facility on seven acres in El Cajon, California (just outside of San Diego). We are a mid-size manufacturing company with 155 employees and a track record of stability and success.



Our growth requires us to bring another Manufacturing Engineer / Process Engineer to our Operations Team. This hands-on position will report to the Director of Operations and be responsible for coordinating and directing process development, process improvements and operations management activities. This position is based in the Operations Department and works closely with production employees, supervisors, engineers, management, vendors and customers to sustain, control and improve production processes.



Position Duties and Responsibilities

Lead, plan and direct the process development and process improvement activities of the Operations Department. Monitor processes, field problems, and adjust or improve processes to meet specifications and reduce waste.


Provide expert technical assistance and on-the-job training or re-training to production employees and supervisors/coaches, and ensure all work is performed in an expeditious, complete, cost effective manner.


Oversee critical process development work. Review the work of others for accuracy, completeness and quality.


Develop and implement long range process improvement plans based on cost, quality and delivery needs.


Interface with production employees, supervisors/coaches, engineers, management and customers to develop a common understanding of needs, assess priorities and develop and implement process changes.


Plan process development in advance, when possible, coordinating with the Customer Service/MRP Department and in consideration of the manufacturing schedule to ensure economic and efficient use of material, people and manufacturing resources.


Develop an understanding of current and potential process capabilities and process control limits. Implement statistical process control (SPC) where appropriate. Provide on-the-job SPC training to the production employees and supervisors/coaches. Work with others to systematically ensure product quality through process control techniques.


Identify and order material, tooling and equipment necessary to support manufacturing operations. Recommend new equipment when justified by quality and/or cost benefits. Seek optimum balance between the value of the tooling inventory and development cycle time.



Position Requirements



Education:
Four-year college degree in Engineering, Metallurgy or a related science. An advanced degree in one of these disciplines or MBA is preferred but not necessary.



Experience:
Five (5) or more years engineering and/or manufacturing experience, preferably in metals fabrication or a related industry.



Knowledge:
Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and process development.

Knowledge of the various materials used metals manufacturing (high performance alloys), heat treating and cleaning processes.

Knowledge of Statistical Process Control techniques.
Familiarity with tooling and machining.



Skills and Abilities:

Ability to train and coach others and facilitate the transfer of knowledge.

Operate a personal computer, related hardware and software (MS Office) and standard office equipment.
Work as an effective team member and bridge departments to improve processes.
Maintain a cooperative and supportive working relationship with company personnel at all levels.
Provide and accept constructive feedback.
Work under minimal supervision and ability to adapt to frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
Travel throughout the plant to perform job duties.
Lift and carry tools, equipment and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
