Material Engineer - Heat Treat Expert

Stanley Corporate Engineering has an opportunity located at the New Britain, CT headquarters for a Material Engineer. This position will assume full responsibility as the organization's leading Heat Treat expert.  He or she will lead a heat treat technology team or council consisting of all key people responsible for heat treating technology throughout Stanley.  Business areas that will be impacted include: Product development, Manufacturing, Purchasing and the supply chain, Marketing & Sales and Strategic Planning.


Major Tasks and Level Accountability:Evaluate and assess new heat treat technologies on an ongoing basis and introduce these findings to the appropriate parties within Stanley.Maintain current knowledge of engineering and technological developments that could be useful and relevant to the business (including relationships with various professional organizations, institutes and Universities).Lead and contribute to the streamlining of heat treat usage and processing throughout the many Stanley businessesAssist and guide the analysis and determination of the best heat treat processes that will satisfy design, manufacturing and market requirements.Rapidly resolve critical heat treat problems/issues throughout the various product groups and maintain a record of such issues.  Identify and transfer best practices throughout Stanley as well.Utilize expertise and knowledge to build more "leveraged" relationships with vendors and suppliers.Participate in and help drive the Stanley Fulfillment Process as an active participant of the Corporate Operations organization.Transfer knowledge and expertise throughout the company through training and best practice sharing.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Education and Experience sought:

 

? An engineering graduate with at least fifteen to twenty years experience. Masters in Materials or
Metallurgical Engineering with specialization in heat treating.

? Proven track record of successful world-class heat treat initiatives in the same or
similar industry and demonstrated technical leadership.

? A high degree of commercial awareness, combined with a proven record of driving heat treat
Technology in a process-based, product manufacturing organization.Decisive/confident, open/candid, ability to relate well with others.Strong sense of urgency and personal commitment.

? In addition to specialization in heat treatment, direct experience with products using stamped, cast, machined and plastic molded components.
