Dow Chemical Company currently has an opening for a?Materials?Engineering Specialist at it's

Freeport, TX? site.

The Materials Engineering Specialist?role exists to oversee and maintain responsibility for the design and fabrication of new, as well as repair of existing equipment & piping.? This includes providing input to the development of fabrication specifications, reviewing/approving vendor designs, and assisting inspectors for projects and maintenance activities in Freeport.??? The Specialist will work closely with leadership concerning improvements to existing and development of new standards, details and design aids.???

Job Requirements:


1.? Provide technical support in the uses and applications of materials in projects.? This includes support for proper material selection, specifications, testing, inspection and fabricator's capabilities.? Review of fabricator's design and fabrication techniques and print approvals.?


2. Leverage technical expertise.?? Provide assistance, and backup to shop/field inspectors as a subject matter expert (SME).?? Assist in interpreting inspection results, identifying fabrication flaws, and determining optimum inspection tests to use.? Recommend modifications to standard test procedures, troubleshoot equipment flaws, and recommend repair procedures for?thermoplastic and other types of equipment.


3. Work with inspectors in the use and troubleshooting of acoustic emission (A.E.)? and procedures for testing of vessels.? Review the results of A.E. tests and provide interpretation of the results and assistance in determining if further testing and/or repairs are required.


4. Interface effectively with material vendors.




Bachelor of Science in any Engineering discipline, with?a minimum of 5 years of appropriate Materials Engineering?experience is required.

Background in?stress analysis is a plus.??

Six Sigma Certification is preferred, but not required.

?ExperienceExperience in the application of ASME and API codes is desired.The Incumbent must have good written and oral communication skills.? The job includes leading/facilitating team and group meetings as well as interacting with project teams, vendors and inspectors. Organization skills necessary to maintain the required documentation are a must. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are important. Planning and organizational skills to prioritize and handle multiple tasks is a must. The ability to read, understand and troubleshoot equipment prints is preferred. Incumbent must be able and willing to travel, including international.? Incumbent should?be in excellent physical condition, good eyesight and attention to detail.Periodic vessel entry and elevated work such as scaffolding, manlifts, etc. will be required
