Description:
Train in the use of existing APL models and simulations used to predict the infrared (IR) signature of missile and rocket motor plumes. Exercise the codes for pre and post test analysis of ballistic missile tests. Contribute to the development of code improvements and upgrades. Use existing codes to compute the IR signature of missiles and chemically reacting rocket motor plumes. Deliver results in the form of specifically formatted data files. Compare predictions with flight test data and literature. Develop and extend the capabilities of codes used for numerical calculations and associated graphical applications using C/C in the LINUX/UNIX operating systems. Document results in technical memoranda and papers; present findings to government agencies and flight test mission planners.

Qualifications:
Required:
M.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related science. Knowledgeable in the underlining principals of IR signatures and experience with industry standard IR modeling codes. Experience in C/C programming using state-of- the-art scientific computing techniques. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired:
Same as above plus PhD and four or more years experience in one or more of the following areas: radiation transport, thermochemical ablation, aerothermal heating, reacting flows, plume IR emissions, turbulence and diffusion.
