This position involves design, development, integration and testing of mechanical components and sub-assemblies as part of the development of novel microfluidic-based biological instruments. Experience in both high volume production part design and and low volume prototype part design (including processes such as injection molding, sheet metal and machining) is required. Expertise using 3D solid-modelling CAD tools is required (SolidWorks). Candidate should be comfortable interacting with outside vendors and suppliers as well as with internal engineering and biology staff. Good communication skills are required for presenting design ideas, preparing reports and documenting part design and assemblies. Prior experience in microfluidic hardware design is a plus. Successful candidate has a BSME (or higher) with 5+ years of mechanical design experience. Prior experience with biological instrumentation is a required.?
