Mechanical Engineer - Optimization & Control REVISED

CITY: Twinsburg, Houston STATE: Ohio COUNTRY: USA Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
The primary function of this position will encompass the mechanical and electro-mechanical interface design responsibilities associated with the GE-Tensor MWD systems, LWD System Tools, Steering Tool Systems and other associated equipment. Specific responsibilities will include:

* Mechanical hardware design support associated with current sustaining product initiatives as well as the development of new products within the GE Tensor Product family. This includes the development and product integration of new state-of-art sensor and system technologies to support the continued growth of the product line.
* Ongoing (sustaining) engineering activities with respect to detailed mechanical design, stress and vibration analysis, parts selection, packaging, and the specification writing (i.e., manufacturing control documentation) for qualification testing and final manufacturing.
* Specific designs for customer product. This will include complete ownership of the entire process starting with the conceptual design through the final qualification and field-testing of product.
* Responsible for defining, scheduling, communicating, and meeting deliverables for critical program checkpoints and team milestones within the product team environment.
* Ensuring that proper DFSS and DFM rigor has been employed throughout development and/or design process.
* Performing hands-on failure analysis, root cause analysis and qualifying testing.
* Promoting team cohesiveness and cooperation with all cross-functional groups (i.e., fostering strong working relationship with all cross-functional organizations, including manufacturing, quality, document control, service, and product line management).
* Sponsoring a creative environment that allows free flow of new ideas while embracing speed and excellence.
* Customer and sales support as well as periodic travel to customer, vendor and other GE business sites.

Qualifications/Requirements:
* BS in Mechanical Engineering with extensive experience in electro-mechanical hardware design. This includes competence with computer related design tools (e.g., Solidworks, AutoDesk Inventor, CosmosWorks/Geostar).
* A minimum of 5 years associated with design/development of downhole mechanical components/sub-systems for the oil and gas exploration drilling industry. Specific experience with magnetometer and accelerometer technologies as well as experience with high temperature (175C) downhole electronics shock and vibration isolation techniques.
* Proven ability to drive multiple projects in parallel as an individual contributor.
* Hands-on experience with the industry practice of conducting "directional calibrations" on Orientation Modules for downhole drilling systems.
* Working knowledge of the mechanical industry American Petroleum Institutes (API) standards.
* Demonstrated proficiency with vibration test equipment and qualification procedures.
* Six Sigma Green Belt Certification (GE employees only).

Desired:
* MS in engineering with very strong analytical skills encompassing sensors and/or electro-mechanical systems.
* Minimum of 7 years engineering experience.
* Strong understanding of ISO 9001 Design Control Standards.
* Minimum of 2 years of hands on experience with GE-Tensor Products.
* Knowledge of design techniques for 200C downhole (high temp & high vibration) electronics.
* SAP experience.
* Six Sigma Green Belt Certification (GE employees only).
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills that are consistent with all levels of the organization.
