Metrology Technician 3
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lead metrology services utilizing a variety of mechanical, optical, and laser measurements in a manner reflecting PCI's commitment to the highest levels of safety and quality. This position serves as a lead role in the performance and coordination of daily activities.
WORKING PROCEDURE AND/OR RESPONSIBILITY ASSIGNED:
Perform work of equal or lower skill level as required.
1. Perform technical / service lead and shift supervisor activities, including but not limited to project supervision, planning / scheduling, customer orientation and conflict resolution.
2. Act as subject matter expert (SME) to develop training and lesson plans and oversee program implementation.
3. Supervise, lead set up, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot metrology services and equipment at customer sites. Serve as technical advisor as required.
4. Provide support and training by performing activities such as equipment modifications, equipment setup and testing, mock-up preparation, process testing, and equipment and process qualifications. Accurately document equipment performance issues, recommend options, and ensure corrective actions are complete prior to next scheduled use.
5. Collect, verify, and process data collected utilizing various measuring methods and practices up to but not limited to software and computer generation as required in the level of proficiency detailed in the Metrology Level 3 criteria certification.
6. Develop and lead training and development programs related to orientation, metrology certifications, contract management, project management, project planning / scheduling, customer orientation, conflict resolution.
7. Develop and assist in monitoring and managing the budget relative to the metrology department.
8. Prepare, review and examine documents such as, but not limited to, drawings, technical reports, policies, procedures for assignments, and various specifications to verify completeness and accuracy of data. Record data in required forms as needed.
9. Ensure personal and team practice and understanding of ALARA principles and a "Safety First" attitude as an integral part of all activities. Demonstrate and promote good house keeping practices in work areas.
10. Develop, exercise and promote team building skills with peers, superiors, contractors, customers, and other departments.
11. Demonstrate customer service sensitivity and customer service skills.
12. Assist in all project areas when need arises.
13. Develop and deliver personnel performance feedback to management for specific projects or work assignments.
This position requires extensive travel (80%-90%) and working with and around hazardous materials. This position is subject to the requirements of PCI, Westinghouse and customer security, unescorted access and fitness for duty programs.
SCOPE PURPOSE AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS
Interdepartmental - Daily - Receive assignments, training, and report status. Obtain and discuss information related to work assignments and projects.
Intradepartmental - Frequent - Receive assignments, training, and report status. Obtain and discuss information related to work assignments and projects.
Customers and Vendors - Frequent - To obtain and discuss information equipment, health physics, security. This contact has significant impact on PCI image and profitability.
Direction of others:
Explain work assignments and provide guidance to other personnel of equal or lower classification. In circumstances where the incumbent may have unique skills or abilities, the manager may temporarily assign personnel of higher classifications to take direction from the incumbent.

Specific instructions are provided on all new assignments and projects. Initial assignments are in a "training status". All work is subject to route checks, and final verification. Accuracy of workmanship, and adherence to tolerances, specifications, and procedures is of the utmost importance.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) certificate from an accredited college or equivalent combination of related experience and education. Demonstrated ability in the use of algebraic and trigonometry formulas. Specific knowledge of computers or mechanical curriculum and use is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENT:
A minimum of one (1) year documented work experience with a degree or related certification. A minimum of five (5) years documented work experience with field Metrology. Demonstration of the use of Laser tracker, theodolite, or photogrammetric measurement equipment preferred. Four (4) years work experience in a machine shop, construction or engineering environment may be substituted providing that evidence demonstrates drafting skills, lay-out, calibration, and document management skills.
