Mine Engineer I

Job Description

Major Responsibilities:

-Assists in the development of mining plans to support short and/or long range planning and production goals.
-Participates in engineering feasibility studies to define proper mining methods, equipment selection, mine site facilities, and manpower and production requirements.
-Monitors mining methods and equipment, with a view to improving performance.
-Assists in developing and managing mine, waste dumps, and stockpile designs.
-Assists in identifying courses of action to improve safety, operational efficiencies, control production costs and protect the environment.
-Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

-Bachelor's degree in Mining or Geological Engineering or equivalent experience
-Entry level position with up to two (2) years experience
-Knowledge of the principles and practices of mining engineering
-Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
-Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
-Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Previous experience working in a mine environment
-Statistical data analysis experience
-Experience in making economic evaluations
-Previous experience with AutoCAD, Minesight, and computer programming

Criteria/Conditions(specific background and skills):

-Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
-While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.
-Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 30 pounds) during the course of the workday.
-Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
