Network / Communications Engineer

SFA, Inc., an entrepreneurial, employee-owned company and supplier of engineering services for defense, communications and information technology sectors, is seeking a Network/Communications Engineer for its San Diego office. This position will support the development and integration of network, radio frequency, and baseband control and management systems. In an interagency team environment, this individual will analyze and document network and communications equipment for monitoring and control requirements; support engineering and programming tasks and oversee hardware, software and network designs for Naval ship and shore communications facilities; and develop system concepts, designs, requirements and specifications for network and communications control systems. Qualifications include extensive experience with military communications and networking architecture and technologies, operations, equipment and requirements. Knowledge of US Navy/DOD networking and communications systems and a working knowledge of commercial and COTS networking and communications architectures and technologies is highly desirable. Experience with networking technologies and equipment including Information Assurance, network security, TCP/IP, IPv6, VPN, QoS, wireless, routers, switches, and packet shapers is key. Additional skills and experience sought: military and commercial network and communications equipment, including tactical radios for HF, VHF, and UHF spectrum, satellite communications systems, modems, ATM, and matrix switches. Working knowledge of software interface and control protocols including XML, SOAP, SNMP, TCP/IP, RS-232, EIA-485, and MIL-STD-1553 preferred. Working knowledge of software architectures including service oriented architecture is helpful.
