. BASIC FUNCTION:
Defines, oversees, and participates in the work performed by Network Engineers, Network Technicians, and/or Provisioning Coordinators to plan, design, and manage network infrastructure components for effective performance, cost effectiveness, and availability. Key knowledge aspects:
' Fully qualified in all routine and typical aspects of role
' Complete understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field
' Contributes to the completion of specific programs and projects
' Provides technical solutions to a wide range of technical problems
' Works under general direction and independently determines/develops approach to solutions
' Provides technology guidance across peers
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manages network projects related to technology pilots, conversions, implementations, etc.
2. Provides engineering, design, and technical support for customer and/or internal networks.
3. Analyzes network performance and makes recommendations for improvements.
4. Provides 3rd level technical support for network, including root cause analysis and permanent resolution.
5. Plans and implements maintenance, modifications, and enhancements to the network.
6. Maintains high level of expertise in current and emerging technologies.
7. Coordinates network changes or activities with affected departments.
8. Assists with monitoring costs related to the network environment.
9. Manages network vendor performance through routine measurements and reviews.
Education:
' Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent technical experience
' Prefer CISCO certifications such as CCNP and CCIE
Experience:
' 10-12 years of related network experience
' Demonstrated project management experience
' Diagnostic experience with a variety of protocol standards
' Experience with PC based tools and products
' Experience with routers, hubs, and bridges
' Experience with SNMP Management Tools, PC based tools and products, and MS-Office preferred
Specialized:
' Knowledge of a variety of network management tools, test equipment, circuits, and modems
' Knowledge of TCP/IP protocol stack and firewall security in an inter-networking environment
' Knowledge of X.25, frame relay, Ethernet, and token rings
' Knowledge of IP addressing and subnetting
' Excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer service, communications, and presentation skills
