JOB DESCRIPTION

In this position you will define, design, test, and document hardware for Varian Medical Systems* radiation therapy machines. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer with in-depth analog design experience coupled with programming experience using CPLDs, FPGAs, and DSPs. The job will entail designing analog circuits with associated digital and embedded control circuits, implementing functions in CPLDs and FPGA logic, and developing local power conversion circuits. The candidate should be comfortable with learning and enhancing a substantial existing design hardware and code (Logic and C) base. Additional useful skills include knowledge of embedded real-time systems, hardware-software interaction, and experience with lab test equipment and LabView driven I/O. A combination of significant analog and some programming is a must.

The primary tasks will include:
o Creating and documenting board, FPGA, and firmware requirements
o Designing PC boards (focus on detailed analog circuits), and writing FPGA code. Some programming will be required for hardware development and test.
o Creating test plans and testing according to requirements
o Transitioning design into manufacturing
o Working in a team environment

JOB REQUIREMENTS

o BS or MS in Electrical Engineering
o 6+ years experience with analog, digital and mixed signal board-level designs
o 3+ years experience with FPGA design using VHDL
o 2+ years experience with software programming in C, C++
o Significant experience designing precise analog circuits strongly desired
o Experience designing with TI DSPs, Xilinx FPGAs a plus
o Experience using LabView a plus
o Ability to define and develop test methodologies and test plans to verify designs
o Experience designing in a medical environment a plus
o Excellent written and verbal communications skills
