Optical Design Engineer

Experience:  Must have some basic experience with injection molded plastic parts.  Should have experience in developing new products (automotive, consumer or industrial). Should have 1-2 years experience in plastic optical part design such as light pipes, light guides, fresnel lenses etc.  Familiar with Ray trace software such as Speos, Optis, or ASAP.

 

Knowledge:

Ideal candidate would have experience in designing plastic and glass optics for decorative and light guide purposes, such as light pipes, optics to focus light into plastic fiber, lenses with features to create uniform lighting patterns, and backlighting panels for LCD?s and decorative panels.  Experience in architectural or automotive lighting a plus.  Experience with LEDs is also a plus.

 

The candidate should have some knowledge of designing mass produced products (volumes from 10,000pcs/year to 1 million per year)  using standard manufacturing processes like injection molding, metal stamping, circuit board fabrication, machining, casting, etc. 

 

More important than the candidate?s specific knowledge or area of expertise would be his or her effectiveness at driving programs, bringing open issues to resolution, and identifying and eliminating bottlenecks.  Communication skills and ability to follow through are critical.

 

Understanding of PC?s and knowledge of both spreadsheet and word processing applications.

 

Knowledge in the following areas required:

- Knowledge of Ray trace software (optis, speos, ASAP) 

- Working knowledge and ability to design in CAD (Solidworks, IDEAS/CATIA).

- Prototyping techniques and resources
