EDUCATION

-  BS in computer science or related discipline preferred.

 EXPERIENCE

-  8+ years experience in software development with excellent Java and C++ skills

-  5+ years network application development experience

-  Direct hands-on experience developing IPTV and/or streaming media highly desirable

-  Direct hands-on experience developing MPEG playback software highly desirable

-  Solid understanding of networking technologies

-  Solid understanding of relevant media protocols and standards

-  Significant experience with developing distributed systems components

 RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Premier Retail Networks is the leading provider of digital video into retail stores all across the country. We are seeking an experienced software engineer to fill a senior role as part of our In-Store Systems Multimedia Team.  This position requires experience developing complex multimedia applications for Linux and Windows using Java and C++.

 

This position requires a solid foundation in object-oriented development and a deep understanding of network-oriented applications.  The ideal candidate for this position would have significant experience in streaming media - particularly IPTV ? including an understanding of MPEG Program Streams, Transport Streams, and audio/video codecs (especially MPEG2).  The successful candidate would understand TCP/IP sockets at the packet level and have substantial experience developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing network-based application software. Experience with video device driver or similar low-level system code is highly desirable.  Understanding of relevant media protocols and standards is highly desirable (RTP/RTCP/RTSP/SMIL/MPEG).  Experience with open source streaming servers (Darwin/VLS/VLC) is highly desirable.  This position will involve components that are both Windows and Linux based, so a strong familiarity with both platforms is required.  


This is a senior engineering position that includes significant design and development effort as well as providing technical leadership regarding the design and architecture of our system.  This includes not only writing new code and refactoring existing code, but also analyzing and understanding business requirements provided by Product Management, and communicating clearly and effectively about the architecture and implementation details to Engineering Management, across departments, and to the rest of the team implementing the system.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can drive results and arrive at technical solutions quickly.
