PROCESS DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

Develops processes, procedures and equipment to grow thin film polycrystalline Mercuric Iodide (HgI2) using Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) and Particle in Binder (PIB) technologies.  Plans, organizes, and conducts research and development projects by performing the following duties.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

? Develops research plan, designs experiments, outlines research procedures to be followed, and executes experiments.

 

? Performs routine to complex, experimental procedures related to Mercuric Iodide thin film fabrication.

 

? Creates standards and specifications for processes, facilities, product, and tests used in transitioning detector technologies to a commercial venue.

 

? Adjusts PVD/PIB controls to alter thin film fabrication to meet company specifications.

 

? Observes PVD/PIB operation to identify deviations from specifications and procedures.

 

? Logs thin film observations and analyzes data in effort to define trends that will lead to increased yields of grown material.

 

? Performs Mercuric Iodide thin film detector tests in the way of special test procedure and provides data analysis of test results correlated to material process and film growth experiments.

 

? Provides technical support to area personnel as needed.

 

? Preparation of technical reports for management and funding agencies.

 

? Plan the schedule of research according to company?s or contracting organization?s timetable, and establishes daily or weekly routines necessary to meet project timetable.

 

? Maintain adequate records keeping to support patent actions.

 

? Inspects PVD system for leaks, diagnoses equipment malfunctions, and requests equipment repairs.

 

? Confers with scientists and engineers regarding research in supporting technical papers and reports.

 

? Works with outside test labs, ingredient suppliers, equipment vendors, and consultants as needed.

 

? Sets up and operates PVD and PIB systems.

 

? Maintains knowledge of new developments in the industry.

 

? Coordinates work with other personnel within the laboratory.

 

Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) in engineering or the physical sciences, i.e., Material Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics from a four-year college or university; with 3-7 years plus related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in Vacuum Technology and semiconductor processing with a basic knowledge of semiconductor physics highly desired.
