Package Design Engineer - Nashville, TN

Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing multi-material (corrugated, foam, cornerpost, wood, and paper) packaging solutions that meet customer performance and cost requirements.  Working closely with sales, manufacturing and customer representatives the candidate will insure new package designs and changes transition efficiently  into production. As part of the design process, candidates will be expected to develop concepts, build samples (using standard wood shop equipment - table saws, drills, planers, etc.), and test the packages, to prove out their designs.  Coordinating and participating in trial runs of new packaging designs is also a responsibility for this position.

Primary Responsibilities:


Support the company safety policies and procedures. 


Design complete packaging (internal and external) for the white goods industry (home appliances, lawn and garden, furniture, etc.) that meet customer expectations. 


Work closley with manufacturing to insure designs are capable of being built at the required speeds and cost targets. 


Participate in design reviews and problem solving sessions with peers and customer representatives. 


Identify and implement cost and quality improvements on existing packaging. 

Requirements:
Bachelor of Science in Package Engineering. 
Three or more years experience in designing with corrugated, foam, and/or paper packaging.
The ability to operate standard wood shop equipment (table saws, band saws, chop saws,  mills, planers, drills etc.)
The ability to operate standard protective packaging test equipment (compression, vibration, drop testers)
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present concepts to management/customers/peers.
Experience with 3D modeling computer design software is a plus.
Travel expected to be 30-40%.
