Paraxylene Process Development & Plant Support Engineer

This position will provide proactive technical support to the Company's Aromatics & Styrenics facilities, with an initial assignment to support the Paraxylene (PX) manufacturing facility located at Pascagoula, MS. Other A&S facilities include St. James, LA; Port Arthur, TX. The position?s primary responsibility is to continuously improve business profitability through plant optimization and/or projects. Additionally:
Provide process engineering support and Research & Technology input for plant improvement or expansion projects. Provide proactive process engineering support prior to commissioning and startup. Includes building key tools, data links, models, and relationships with the plant.Provide short term technical troubleshooting. Analysis and key input into the commercial catalyst selection process. Build and maintain monitoring tools, kinetic models, and process simulations. Monitor yields and energy efficiency. Ensure cost statements reflect actual performance. Lead and coordinate improvement teams with the refinery.Provide longer-term process improvement leadership and support. Conduct plant tests and heat and material balances. Proactively identify bottlenecks, equipment performance, optimization opportunities, and projects to improve yields and energy efficiency.Keep abreast of the latest catalyst and process technologies, including competing processes. Interface with vendors and licensors. Maintain watch of new technology patents and innovations.Serve on pilot plant teams, working with R&D chemists and technicians. Provide key commercial input into the pilot plant experiment schedule and operation. Analyze pilot plant data for commercial catalyst selection and kinetic modeling. Provide intermittent process support to business teams. Technical input for product and feedstock Quality issues.

QualificationsMinimum BS Chemical Engineering Minimum five years? process engineering experience in petrochemical or refining processes related to aromatics production At least 2 to 3 years direct plant support experience is desirable Paraxylene (PX) technical expertise is highly desirable Experience in refining, BTX, benzene, toluene, xylene, cyclohexane, styrene, ethylbenzene (EB), reforming, hydro-treating, isomerization, crystallization, adsorption, extractive distillation, alkylation, dehydrogenation, and/or extraction is a plus. Professional Engineering License is a plus.

Awareness and application of Safety and Environmental principles, procedures, and regulations is required at all times, including personal safety, plant operation, and process safety design.
Chemical engineering fundamentals with a demonstrated ability to develop and use process simulation software tools and Microsoft Office software products, including Excel and Word.VBA (Visual Basic)/FORTRAN programming and use of decision and risk analysis modeling tools is a plus.
Effective teamwork skills with demonstrated ability to lead and or facilitate teams to meet business and technical objectives. Ability to build and maintain relationships with peers, clients, and business partners. Excellent writing and speaking skills. Ability to communicate effectively in technical and non-technical business environment.
Self-starter with solid planning and analytical skills; requires minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to proactively assess and prioritize process improvement opportunities, sell the concept, and lead implementation of improvements to make a substantial contribution to the business.
Demonstrated ability to apply creative problem solving methods. Meet technical and business objectives and milestones in sometimes-stressful situations. Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
