The Position: Patent Attorney

ParkerVision?s dynamic and growing organization seeks a proactive, self-starting, highly motivated Patent Attorney for its management team.  The role will be responsible for handling transactional, patent and IP issues relating to development and granting of patents.  The successful candidate will have experience in one or more of the following: managed or participated in a patent prosecution program; managed or participated in a patent research and analysis program; managed or participated in an intellectual property asset management program; and handled related intellectual property issues, including copyright and trade secret ownership, confidentiality, and open source licensing. 

 

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this position will be based at our Jacksonville, Florida headquarters, the successful candidate will assume a leadership role in providing intellectual property support for designated technology areas and provide strategic direction for the development of effective patent protection, IP analytics, licensing and monetization projects for our legal services outsourcing firm?s patent channel.  Further, the Patent Attorney will be expected to adhere to and promote ParkerVision?s values by performing duties in a manner that is consistent with being a team member and supporting the continued growth of the company.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

? Determines potential and claim strength of granting patents on inventions or trademarks, and monitors possibility of infringement.

? Responsible for coordinating, with a prominent patent firm, the preparation and filing of patent applications and trademark registrations; litigation of pending applications and registrations; reporting possible violations; and prosecution of violations of organization's registrations and/or patents.

? Coordinate and review a full suite of patent research and analysis projects, including prior art searches, competitive intelligence, landscapes, patentability studies, infringement/non-infringement studies, in/validity studies, and freedom to operate studies.

? Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting restrictions on time.

? Act as a liaison with corporate partners on patent-related matters.

? Participate in the budgeting and review processes to evaluate team members in the patent channel.

? Interview, select, recommend hire, train and assign legal staff as needed.  Provide direction and mentoring and assess the staff effectiveness, both departmentally and individually. Evaluate performance and provide counseling and coaching to employees.

 

Required Skills:

? A minimum of 5 years' experience obtained in-house or in a prestigious law firm environment and in a related area.

? A JD and admission to at least one state bar.

? Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

? Strong technical skills and possess a minimum of a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering with a Master?s degree preferred.

? Highly effective communication and negotiation skills.

? Self-directed, self-motivated; able to work in cross-functional team environment and as a sole contributor.

? Superior organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

? Ability to communicate with various levels of staff and external contacts.

? Strong Inter-Personal Skills/Outgoing.

? Strong Internet and PC skills, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

? Capable of working under pressure.

? Ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain high levels of confidentiality.

? Attention to detail and strong follow-up skills.

? Good judgment and initiative in selecting the most effective work methods and tools.

? Domestic and international travel required, including overnight stays, at times with short notice.
