Piping Drafter Designer Linewalk

Applicants welcome from all over the country.  Our home office is based in North Central Illinois, but our projects are often located on the east, west & gulf coast - we will hire qualified candidates located in these areas.

 

Draftech, Inc. has a position open for a general-purpose process piping drafter/line walker.  The position entails various piping disciplines, including P&ID verifications, isometric sketching of as-built piping systems, and CAD drafting.  Piping design skills are viewed as beneficial, but not mandatory. 

 

Extensive paid travel is required, as the successful applicant may spend as much as 6 months each year on the road.  Travel stints are usually in 2-3 week increments, followed by 2-3 weeks in the office.

 

The ideal applicant will be an experienced CAD drafter with significant piping experience.

 

They will readily understand the flow of liquids and vapors through process piping equipment and systems.  They will also understand basic process equipment function as it relates to the process flow. 

 

They will have experience creating and understanding piping isometrics, and be able to generate complex isometric drawings from scratch on a blank sheet of paper.

 

They will have good handwriting skills, and their handwriting will be easily interpreted.

 

They will be self-motivated and punctual.  They will largely be working without supervision, and must be able to move forward without prodding.

 

They will have good interpersonal and communication skills, and will have good personal grooming and hygiene habits.  They will sometimes be the only face of our company that the customer will ever see, and will represent our company professionally in that environment.

 

They will be extremely organized.  They will be responsible for 400-500 field sketches on some projects, and must be able to report on progress to both the client and the home office, know where they are in relationship to the overall project, and must return from a completed project with ALL the information that is needed.

 

They must be in good physical condition.  When traveling they will usually be working outdoors, often in extreme weather conditions (think Mississippi in the summer and upstate New York in the winter).  They will be climbing fixed industrial ladders to the top of 200? distillation columns, and will routinely be climbing stairs in 4 story industrial complexes.

 

They will not have any medical conditions that would be aggravated by extreme weather conditions or air environments with trace amounts of hazardous chemicals.  Our customers are chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical manufacturers and oil refineries.
