POSITION SUMMARY
Johns Manville is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Plant Engineer to be located in our Winder, GA facility. The Plant Engineer has overall responsibility for managing the maintenance and engineering services for equipment, property, buildings and facilities for a manufacturing location.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical and Engineering leader of the plant
Supervise and maintain all utility services including water, gas, steam, electricity, roads, sewage, railroad spur tracks, and truck shop.
Develop and implement labor relations programs for those under direct responsibility in compliance with company policies and labor agreements.
Participate in union-management functions.
Provide technical training and guidance to management and team members.
Coordinate and be responsible for fire protection and prevention.
Implement engineering and maintenance improvement programs required to meet OSHA/JM safety requirements.
Show initiative in supporting safety; manage operations within budget, assist in preparation of budgets and standards for cost measurement, and develop and implement for new capital investment, cost reduction and equipment refurbishment.
Develop and administer material and labor usage controls.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise production equipment maintenance program including evaluation of predictive maintenance data, scheduling and conducting preventative maintenance activities.
Participate in plans to improve productivity, cost reduction and energy conservation and development.
Work with internal departments, such as Purchasing, and Transportation in maintaining services for the plant.
Represent the company's position and interest effectively in dealings with outside contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants.
Coordinate hazardous materials handling and disposal.
QUALIFICATIONS
BS Engineering, preferably chemical, mechanical or materials engineering.
Minimum of 3 - 5 years of plant engineering experience involving high temperature furnaces and continuous manufacturing processes.
Experience in direct supervision of maintenance and engineering employees, preferably in a union environment and exposure to manufacturing facilities shipping/receiving, safety and quality.
Experience managing capital projects
Experience with a continuous process discipline such as Six Sigma/Lean/TQM manufacturing environment and Black/Green belt certification would be a plus.
Solid knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental, safety, and industrial hygiene laws and regulations.
Solid knowledge of current raw materials technology.
Solid interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills along with the ability to analyze and resolve problems.
Provide complex and occasionally innovative solutions to process engineering problems.
Solid negotiation skills, ability to work in a team environment along with solid supervisory and leadership skills.
Ability to recruit, train, and develop employees to assure operational flexibility and responsiveness, and increase technical knowledge.
Ability to assist in budgetary process and administer programs to control material and labor costs.
Familiarity with plant cost accounting procedures.
Solid project management skills, with the ability to manage a large number of projects concurrently and handle stressful situations during critical projects.
Ability to work with plant engineers, vendors, contractors and others to complete approved projects. .
Computer proficiency in software applications required for analyzing, monitoring, budgeting, and reporting.
