Smart Transitions employees are experts in the transition of conceptual designs into early prototype construction and experimentation.  All positions are full time at our Arlington, VA, headquarters.  ST is seeking a well-rounded individual to satisfy a requirement for a Principal Engineer or Scientist/Group Leader position. It is of paramount importance to exceed our client expectations with high integrity and focused attention to milestones. Requirements: We seek candidates with exceptional organizational and analytical skills who are strong in systems engineering, requirements analysis, systems design and development and who possess 5+ years of relevant experience. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge and hands-on design experience in analog, RF, digital, and microprocessor/DSP hardware, signal processing, embedded software design and mechanical packaging. While much ST work focuses on RF/electronics-oriented sensors and associated real time and application software development, we also develop communications-related systems (including all allied subsystems, e.g., power, thermal management). Our programs also extend to real time systems control digital and analog) and the management of thermal and other mechanical subsystems and assemblies. In addition to the more prevalent EE and SWE activities, other work may require considerable expertise in thermodynamics and mechanics (e.g., MEMS, thermo-electric devices, thermal cooling technology). Proven success in the generation and maintenance of program schedules, budgets and the recruitment, mentoring, and career development of junior staff members is required. Applicants should posses an appropriate undergraduate degree. Familiarity with military systems, specifications requirements, components and operations are also an important plus. Employment is contingent on the ability to receive and maintain a security clearance. Existing TS/SCI is a plus. Travel to various sites throughout the continental US will be required.


Responsibilities: Oversee and directly participate in the design, fabrication and testing of prototype hardware and software systems. Provide both systems engineering and detailed design of selected subsystems and assemblies; integration, test; and ultimately transition to volume production of commercial and military hardware. The candidate will be responsible for the overall program schedule and budget and daily management and oversight of the development team including various subcontractors and consultants. Additional responsibilities include new concept formulation; development and interpretation of in-depth product and component specifications; application of military and commercial standards; in-house design; cultivation of enabling technologies required by various ST prime systems, preparation of ICDs (interface control documents) and technical design analysis packages for subcontractors or expert consultants; system integration and testing; and technical management of out-placed work.
