Principal / Lead Software Quality Engineer

Under the direction of the Director of Quality Process Improvement, the incumbent implements and drive changes in his/her assigned technology teams to achieve organizational objectives.  The goal is to instill a continuous improvement and quality mindset in TechCentral teams and integrate with our strategic partners so that they can collectively deliver on-time, on-budget and quality software products to support our business operations.  He/She generates software process improvement plans for technology teams supporting business systems, mentor teams and individuals in the execution of various workflows, tools and artifact generation in support of the Pitney Bowes adaptation of the Rational Unified Process and Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). He/She monitors and reports on his/her teams' adherence to process and develops/executes training and mentoring activities to improve process adherence and overall productivity. The incumbent implements and supports from a functional perspective Rational and Mercury tools to automate software development process.  He/She is also responsible for ensuring that TechCentral teams will achieve progressively higher level of maturity in CMMi, the international standard for software development, through annual assessment by authorized assessors provided by System Engineering Institute. 

 

It is proven in other organizations (industries and government) that successful implementation of CMMi will have significant impact in reduction of project costs and support, increase in productivity and increase in customer and employee satisfaction. The CMMi benchmark is reputable among industries and government, adopted commonly as vendor selection criteria.  It will enhance Pitney Bowes' position in sales proposals as customers are increasingly asking for evidence of strong IT support in their RFPs.  There are also many proven examples of positive return on investment due to the positive direct and indirect impacts on costs, revenues and customer satisfaction in the long run.

 

Accountabilities

 

-Create processes, procedures and supporting artifacts

-Implement software development tools (Rational and Mercury)

-Create training materials on process and tools, conduct class room training, group and one-on-one mentoring

-Responsible for assigned technology team members in process and quality mentoring and compliance

-Responsible for creating software development plan for his/her assigned area to create commitment and track performance.

-Serve as senior subject matter expert in software development process and tools to guide teams towards achievement of TechCentral objectives.

-Responsible for assigned TechCentral teams to attain CMMi assessment objectives (by Level)

-Communicate with business and IT management, middle management and teams on change benefits, project and team compliance status on a regular basis

 



>  Minimum of 10 years experience in a software engineering or package applications implementation environment. 

 

>  Experience leading at least two major development projects through the complete product development lifecycle.

 

>  At least 5 years of software engineering process design and implementation experience required. 

 

>  Knowledge and experience of Rational tool suites required.

>  Outsourcing management experience is important.

>  Bachelor of Computer Science or equivalent degree required. 

>  Master degree preferred. 

>  Excellent communication, interpersonal and training skills.

>  Experience with CMM/CMMi and/or other quality frameworks.

>  Experience with outsourcing management preferred.

>  Ability to work with and adapt to different cultures is important.

>  Certification in software quality engineering and Project Management is required. 

 

>  Certification in software quality audit a plus.
