Job Description: Work as a systems engineering subject matter expert in the specification, design, integration, and test of software and hardware for Airborne Data Link and Communications systems. Primary areas of work will involve Link 16, UHF/VHF communications and satellite communications. Other military data links may also be involved. Conduct preliminary and advanced design studies supporting the preparation of engineering proposals and establishment of data link and communications systems architecture and design. Provide cross-functional coordination for complex multidisciplinary system development. Provide mentoring, training, coordination and leadership to lower-level systems engineers in resolving complex systems and design related problems. Prepare complex specifications and detailed engineering reports on system design and performance. Interact with customers to ensure a fundamental understanding of complexities within a technical application. Support the preparation and presentation of formal customer reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR). Provide consultation to Aeronautical Design Engineering, Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, and other functional areas to ensure all assignments are completed in accordance with prescribed objectives and schedule deadlines. Participate with vendor/subcontractor selection and technical management following subcontract award. Support customer and prime contractor interactions as a systems engineering lead. Plan, defined and conduct integration and operational certification testing. Participate and with operational certification tests.

Degree Required: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or Computer Science.

Security Clearance: Must hold a current Secret DoD clearance.

Required Skills: In depth knowledge and experience with Link 16 involving airborne platforms a must. Detailed knowledge of MIL-STD-6016 & STANAG 5516 required. Prior experience with designing and integrating Link 16 and voice/data communications systems is absolutely required. Other military data link experience, to include operational experience, a definite plus. Proven systems engineer design, development and test skills for voice and data communication systems on aircraft platforms. Knowledge of avionic buses (1553, ARINC-429, LAN) as applied to airborne avionics and mission systems. Familiarity with MIL STDs for systems program execution (MIL STD 498 C4ISR, DODAF, MIL STD 499 and RTCA/DO-160). Experience in requirements analysis, specification generation, integration and test and generation of test procedures and test reporting. Knowledge of establishing test and simulation environments for data and voice communications systems testing. Industry experience of 8-12 years is required. Ex-military operational experience may be included. 20% domestic travel will be required, with occasional foreign travel. Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Must be able to function as a team player; leadership skills are a plus.

Physical Requirements: This job entails working in system integration labs and on board aircraft. Some degree of bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting is required in these environments. Job will require attaining flight status to support flying on aircraft as an observer during mission test flights.
