Job Description:

Municipal and State Services (MSS) operation in San Diego, California is seeking a Senior Principal Wastewater Engineer to work primarily with our municipal wastewater clients. The ideal candidate should have local knowledge of the wastewater resources community, wastewater agencies, and local governments, and should reside within San Diego County.

Candidates should have a minimum of 15 years experience in design and management of small to large wastewater treatment projects, including elements such as planning, design, design-build, construction, and start-up of a broad range of wastewater and environmental projects. Candidate's experience should include evaluations, pre-design, design and services during construction of wastewater treatment plants, solids disposal facilities, sewage and reclaimed conveyance facilities.

Candidates should be experienced in managing large, multi-agency, multiple firm engineering projects, including management of client relationships. This person should have marketing skills and be able to gain a sufficient understanding of the MWH menu of services to enable them to sell planning, engineering, construction management and business solutions group services to our wastewater clients in Southern California. The position is open immediately.

Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the local Branch Manager, this position is accountable for applying intensive, complex and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields, making independent decisions to solve engineering problems, resolving questions and planning and coordinating work. This position interacts throughout the organization internally and with clients, and members of business and professional organizations and vendors externally.

Job Description:
1. Develop new business by identifying prospective clients, overseeing proposal development for small to large projects, analyzing proposals for project profitability and preparing and making project presentations.
2. Develop plans and specifications as well as perform and/or supervise preliminary and detailed engineering analysis and design for assigned complex water resource projects. Be able to evaluate alternatives and resolve technical issues.
3. Prepare and negotiates contract and subcontract documents, and review and authorize changes and change orders.
4. Organize, draft and coordinate production of assigned sections of various reports to ensure technical accuracy and inclusion of appropriate documentation.
5. Oversee specific technical area(s) including the supervision of staff, performing analysis of design data, issuing interpretations and solving design problems, as required.
6. Serve as Project Manager on mid- to large-sized projects, including management of several projects concurrently.
7. Perform other related duties as assigned.
8. Follow company and client's policies regarding health and safety guidelines to ensure personal safety.

Qualifications:

BS Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
MS Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering is highly desirable.
Registration (or ability to immediately apply for registration) as a Professional Engineer within the State of California is a requirement.
Strong skills in project management for large wastewater related projects; project management certification highly desired.
Management experience coupled with exceptional organizational, technical, communication, leadership and detail skills also required.
Requires at least 15 years experience in the environmental (wastewater related) consulting.
