Process Engineer - Green End

Scope Of Position:
1. Process development and scale-up for next generation diesel filter materials
2. This engineer will provide solid engineering discipline and project management support focused on the green end of the filter manufacturing process; specifically, this engineer would be focused on batching and extruding samples in large quantities in order to develop a robust manufacturing process for the next generation filter product
3. This engineer will provide guidance on specific forming requirements at different manufacturing locations for the various product contours and recommend process modifications as necessary

Primary role will be to function as a key member on a small team focused on process/product development in support of new Diesel products in the Environmental Technologies Division.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:
1. Team lead on forming and drying process including definition and execution of technical direction, experimental design/execution, and data analysis
2. Definition of extrusion and batch requirements for all product contours and geometries
3. Recommend process or material changes to ensure manufacture of a consistent, robust product
4. Measure and communicate performance against established objectives

 

Travel Requirements:
~15% within the Corning Valley; ~5-10% international travel possible

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
Generally 8-5 workday; Typical week is 40-50 hrs

 

Required Skills:

1. First principles thought process
2. Capable of applying theory to actual applications; Ability to outline a technical plan of tests, experiments, & activities to accomplish goals
3. Ability to conduct and analyze statistically designed experiments and succinctly communicate results (both verbal and written)
4. Good interpersonal skills and ability to get things done through others
5. Understanding of ceramics and materials processing or ability to learn quickly

 

Desired Skills:

1. Manufacturing experience (CET Experience is a plus)
2. Strong work ethic and desire to exceed expectations.
3. Proven presentation and communication skills
4. Six sigma green belt certification
5. Knowledge of formal problem solving techniques like KT

 

Soft Skills:

1. Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and experience: process engineers, project managers, technicians, and R&D scientists
2. Very strong technical curiosity and drive
3. Ability to lead a team to act decisively in the face ambiguity and effectively deal with the frequent changes typical of a rapidly growing business
4. Must be a team player (and resolve issues in consultation with other team members)
5. Ability to manage multiple priorities

 

Education and Experience:

BS in Ceramic, Material Science or Chemical Engineering; MS preferred 0-5 years of related experience
