POSITION SUMMARY

Johns Manville is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Process Engineer to be located in our Willows, California facility. The Process Engineer has the responsibility for directing and conducting assigned tasks and/or projects to maintain or improve production processes and process control for an assigned process section or production operation. This individual will also be responsible for performing process optimization investigations, which will rely on state of the art process data collection systems, control systems, and process modeling systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


The optimization activities will focus on understanding the relationship between Critical to Quality product parameters and the Key Process Variables (KPV's). Once these relationships are established, the efforts will focus on improving the Process Capability Index (Cpk) for these parameters.

The successful applicant will work with or lead a fast paced multi-disciplined team, including skill sets ranging from classical mechanical engineering through advanced control system programmers as required to improve the process performance with respect to Cpk, First Pass Yield (FPY), And the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).

This team may include representatives from the local plant staff, Division Technology or Engineering, and the R&D Staff.

Working with representatives of the Innovation and Commercialization (I&C) Group to assist in the implantation of new product concepts.

This individual must be motivated, inquisitive and like to work in a fast-paced unstructured environment.

He/ She must enjoy keeping abreast of the latest technology trends and have the ability to apply these technologies to JM business problems where appropriate and must have good critical process thinking skills and good verbal and written communication abilities.

QUALIFICATIONS


Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering

5 - 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for assigned production operation and/or process.

Coordinate and monitor project assignments in process improvement and process control.

Train operating personnel on the use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and monitor control charts for processes that are out of control. Develop action plans to get back in control.

Develop action plans to obtain a Cpk of 1.33 for all critical process variables that are established in order to meet critical product characteristics.

Work with the Innovation and Commercialization organization to translate critical product characteristics into critical process variable terms. Develop plans to get processes in control at a Cpk of 1.33.

Audit production operations to ensure that process settings are as per standard operating procedures. Report deviations to superintendent and/or staff supervisor after corrections so that corrective actions can be taken.

Work with the Innovation and Commercialization and Process Technology organization for all new product development initiatives including design or experiment techniques.

Perform design of experiment techniques on existing products of processes in order to improve product characteristics or process stability. Estimate costs for the DOE's.

Be familiar with new processes, process equipment, process control equipment and inspection and test methods.

Establish and manage training programs associated with process control and process operations.

Advise and influence plant management on modifications to systems and procedures that will improve process control or product characteristics in line with customer (internal or external) fitness-for-use.

Advise and influence plant management on modifications to existing equipment that will improve the overall process efficiency (FPY) without sacrificing product characteristics (CTQ).

Investigate quality complaints for root cause of the problem and develop/implement corrective action plan to eliminate the root cause.

Coordinate Production and Innovation & Commercialization activities, such as TP's and the development of Manufacturing Specifications.

Ensure that all safety procedures are being followed.
