Process Manufacturing Engineer

 

POSITION/TITLE:  Process Development Engineer

REPORTS TO:  Director of Operations and Process Engineering Manager

 

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 The engineer is responsible for performing research and development in PCD and PCBN processing.  This research has the goal of solving key manufacturing problems and improving product performance through enhancement and development of improved manufacturing processes.  This position will lead out in determining improved powder and tungsten carbide processing requirements and ensure proper implementation into production.  This position also has the goal of placing/maintaining Megadiamond and Supradiamant at the forefront of PCD/PCBN processing technology.  The engineer is expected to work closely with R&D, Materials, Manufacturing Product Engineers, and Quality, and to participate in cross-functional teams on critical projects.  The engineer is expected to stay current on relevant literature and industrial practice related to powder processing, powder characterization, furnace systems, sintering operations (including HP/HT), heat treatment, etc.  The engineer is expected to strategically apply current and developing technologies in these areas to PCD and PCBN processing.

 

DUTIES

 

1)  Develop improved powder processing techniques (mixing, milling, furnace processing, etc.)

2)  Establish a relationship with our raw material suppliers and improve powder and carbide material specifications and quality.

3)  Assist manufacturing engineering at Megadiamond/Supradiamant in implementing improved processes.

4)  Assist product engineering in developing and improving performance of PCD/PCBN products.

 

 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

 The position requires an M.S. (or equivalent) in ceramic or metallurgical engineering.  Ph.D. Preferred.  The engineer is expected to be familiar with standard mechanical and metallographic techniques for the characterization of ceramic and metallic materials.  Experience in vacuum and hydrogen furnace processes is desired.  The demonstrated ability to characterize, critically interpret, communicate, and make decisions based on analytical data is essential.
