The Dow Chemical Company’s Pittsburg Operations has openings for full-time Process Operating Technicians. The Pittsburg, California site is located in East Contra Costa County in the San Francisco Bay Area. The site, with over 300 employees, is a 24-hour/7-day operation including holidays. The Pittsburg Operations team is looking for top-caliber, technically capable Process Operators who embrace change, adapt fast, make decisions quickly, possess self-confidence and leadership skills and are lifelong learners.
The Process Operating Technician will work in one of our manufacturing plants. He or she is trained to run our chemical plants and produce products that improve the quality of life around the world by improving crop yields, protecting homes from insects, and enhancing the performance of consumer products.

Process Operator will be responsible for:
Operating process related equipment such as pumps, compressors, and valves in a safe environmentally responsible manner
Using process control and process information systems to assess and optimize plant performance by monitoring process equipment and conditions including process levels, temperatures, pressures and flow rates
Collecting samples and performing field checks, adjusting control systems and manually operated equipment based on process and lab data
Collecting and reporting plant measurements related to performance, asset utilization, quality, costs yields, EH&S (Environmental, Health & Safety), production rates, etc.
Determining root causes of deviations in process, product or equipment performance through use of troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis
Identifying opportunities for improvement and makes improvements when appropriate
Performing individual duties with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship
Performing daily tasks efficiently using the appropriate process control and office automation computer tools and software
Locating information, as well as reading, following, and developing operating discipline, procedures and practices to work safely and efficiently
Assisting site logistics in the movement of product, materials, and supplies using a forklift and other equipment
Responding to process upsets and crisis situations by performing duties as assigned by the process or crisis response leader
Other requirements include:
Pass pre-employment testing, drug screening and background check Work in a smoke-free and drug-free work environment Have a high regard for personal safety and the safety of others Be able to lift 50 pounds, lift hoses, bolt flanges, open & close valves up to 6” and operate similar equipment routinely Be able to push and pull cylinders, hoses, carts, drums, and other equipment. Be able to operate hand tools and equipment up to 30 pounds Be able to climb ladders/stairs and work at heights or in tight or closed-in spaces Be able to kneel, bend, crawl and crouch frequently Be able to perform tasks wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as: respirators, protective clothing, face masks, goggles, boots, etc. Must have a High School Diploma or GED. A two year Process Technology or other college credit and degree is preferred. Chemical or petroleum plant knowledge and experience is preferred, but not required. Be able to successfully complete required training. Be able to communicate well, verbally and in writing, and have strong reading comprehension and listening skills Be able to perform single variable mathematical calculations Be able to understand, analyze and resolve technical problems in work area Be able to troubleshoot and do minor preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment Have a desire to learn and develop technical skills to keep current with changing operations Be able to work rotating shifts on an on-going basis (including weekends & holidays) and overtime to cover vacancies due to training, vacation, illness of other team members and scheduled meetings Willingness and ability to be trained to serve on an Emergency Brigade team to operate fire engines and other emergency response equipment, as well as to assist in fire fighting, medical emergencies, vapor mitigation, confined space rescue, building evacuation, staging, escort and other logistical roles as directed by site emergency response personnel
Compensation and Benefits
Starting Salary is $40,920 - $48,432/year (approximately $19-$23/hour), plus shift differential and overtime.
Starting Salary is based on the relevant job experience and education level.
Annual "Bonus" based on company and individual performance is offered.
