Responsibilities

 

Job Summary
The Product Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and validation testing of DC field wound heavy duty starter motor products. The responsibility includes leading the development of new products, continuous design improvements and cost reductions to existing products.  The Product Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams and various customers to ensure products meet / exceed customer performance and durability requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities
?Define product prints and specifications to meet customer requirements (internal and external).
?Develop detailed DFMEA's to drive comprehensive and robust validation test plans.
?Direct designer activities and priorities.
?Work closely with Forward Engineering to leverage use of advanced design tools.
?Develop and implement cost reduction initiatives.
?Define validation tests and procedures, analyze test results, and utilize systematic problem solving techniques.
?Direct and oversee sample build and material orders to meet customer timing for samples.
?Maintain direct customer contact for application, problem resolution, and project team support.
?Work closely with Reliability Engineer on root cause analysis and product reliability improvements.
?Work closely with Supplier Development on component sources and review / test / approve component PPAP's.
?Work in multiple specialty and technical areas to identify, analyze and devise solutions to engineering problems.
?Develop and deliver executive level presentations (internal and external).

 

Qualifications

 

?Bachelor's degree required; engineering or science discipline preferred
?Master's degree or professional certification is a plus
?5 - 7 years of related experience
?Previous experience with rotating electrical machines or additional automotive components desired
?Excellent oral and written communications skills are a must
?Experience dealing with customer issues related to product performance and proven success in developing customer relationships
?Ability to work flexible hours and travel as necessary
?Ability to work in a global engineering and customer environment
?Proficiency in Windows environment and associated PC software
?Competency with design and validation processes (DFMEA, DFSS,  DVP&R, etc.) and skilled in product laboratory testing and analysis processes
