The Mission

 

The Product Engineering Organization at FEI is focused on developing and implementing world class initiatives in accordance with Operational Excellence.  Product Engineers at FEI are expected to lead the key initiatives of ?Fast new Product Cycle Times? & ?Fast Flexible Factories? and provide ownership and direction of the Product Management Process.  By collaborating with the PM, R&D, manufacturing, logistics, purchasing, quality, and TSG groups within FEI, the PE organization implements the following:

 

Conformance to the Product Management Process.

Management of the Product Improvement  Process based on data from SC, factory and field.

Factory, service and supply chain support.

 

The Position

 

Reporting to a Product Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Product Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the production support engineering for a specific product or group of products after transfer from design to volume production.  This position interfaces with design, process, test and reliability engineering as well as other functions when required to solve complex problems.

 

Specific deliverables associated with this position include:

 

Sustain and improve in-house manufacturing process automation software and manufacturing processes to support manufacturing yield targets.

 

Conduct detailed troubleshooting and analysis of system or component level problems that affect reliability, performance, etc.  This may include the use of statistical analysis, 7-Step Problem Solving or other established methods.  Report the results to cross-functional teams in Product Development, Service and Manufacturing.

 

Sustain products with continuous product improvement programs that may include cost reduction, yield improvement projects and training of production personnel.

 

Development and maintenance of technical product and process documentation.

 

Following Engineering Change Order processes, conduct ECO projects to support production and legacy products.

 

Engage design engineering early in the Product Management Process (PMP) for New Product Introductions (NPI).  This includes analysis and investigation and response to systems design proposals.  Specific attention will be place on design for manufacturability, testability, reliability and sustainability. 

 

Manage complex projects from inception to completion.

 

Support the supply chain with Engineering Change Order execution and engineering expertise for component and subassembly sourcing.  This includes the analysis of parts for reliability, vendor qualification and supplier quality issues.  May require some interaction with external suppliers/vendors.

 

Support Field Service/TSG with product and/or process escalations as necessary. 

 

The Requirements

 

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following combination of expertise and education:

 

Bachelor?s degree in a technical discipline such as Mechanical Engineering, EE, Electrical Engineering Technology, Physics, or other relevant degree.  Additional preference for an advanced degree in a relevant technical field.

 

This position requires 5+ years experience and a working knowledge of mechanical assembly, fixture design and high-vacuum design principles.  Additional preference for working knowledge of Unigraphics Cad design, visual basic.net software programming and physics (e.g., electron or ion beam technologies).

 

Candidate will possess a strong process improvement background.  Experience with use of statistical process control and statistical problem solving methods, including Six-Sigma methods is preferred.  Must be capable of providing clear and concise analysis of data that may involve multiple factors and cross-functional areas.

 

Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects from inception to completion with minimal supervision.  Preference for specific training and demonstrated experience in project management.

 

Experience working with semiconductor capital equipment or related systems is preferred.

 

Must possess excellent computer skills and clearly demonstrated ability to develop engineering reports using common Microsoft applications such as Excel, Power Point, Word and other programs such as Acrobat. 

 

Must be able to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining cooperation of multiple cross-functional departments and sites without damaging relationships.  Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

Must have the ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required.
