Basic Purpose of Position:

Brief statement of the main reason for the position's existence:

Provide senior technical problem solving, evaluation and product design resource in systems engineering for diagnostic measurements products.? Understands product design, glucose measurement algorithms, system error budgets, manufacturing and calibration systems and their relationships to customer needs, product performance and LifeScan's business. Provides engineering expertise to research and development activities and coordinate the work of outside consultants to provide the broadest level of support to such efforts.

This position has the responsibility for the system development of blood glucose monitoring and other medical diagnostic meters and systems.? The position includes the active conducting of research and evaluations in domains that support the development of new measurement technologies, systems and products.? It may involve the development of hardware and software required in support of the development of in vitro diagnostic products.

?

The position will provide technical consultation to project teams and other LifeScan functions in the areas of requirements, specifications and design with a focus on those areas involving multiple components, sub-systems.? It may involve the interface with potential and current technology partners to perform assessments of technologies for adaptation to LifeScan product development.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

1. Actively conduct research and evaluations in domains that support the development and improvement of glucose measurement technologies, systems and products.

2.? Develop hardware and software required to support the development of electromechanical based blood glucose testing products.

3.? Interface with potential and current technology partners to perform assessments of technologies for adaptation to LifeScan product development.

4.? Participate in technology and development partnerships to develop competencies for supporting product development.

Potential to work with outside vendors, agencies or organizations in the support of the development of technology, relationships, or business contracts in support of system engineering.?

Must be able to work as part of an interdisciplinary team, interacting easily with other members of the team.? Must be able to provide consultation to other engineers in a positive and supportive way.

External:

Must be able to work with outside suppliers in the characterization of technology, products or processes for new product development.

Education:

BS, BA in Engineering discipline or equivalent.

?

Experience:

5 years in system engineering, or related broad engineering experience.? Experience in medical or high volume consumer products preferred.?

Special Skills Required:

Black Belt or Green Belt certification desired.
