We currently have an opportunity for a Railroads Project Engineer III. This engineer is fully competent to complete design efforts with minimal direction. On a task basis, is responsible for preparation and completion of railroad engineering designs that are responsive to project needs. Coordinates preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Responsible for railroad engineering designs.
+ Help supervise, schedule and check work of project team members.
+ Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
+ Responsible for productivity of subordinates and on time, on budget projects.
+ Track experience can include work directly involving the track with a Railroad, Commuter Authority, LRT Authority, Contractor, or Construction Manager.
+ Technical writing ability includes the knowledge and ability to prepare detailed specifications and reports for track engineering and construction.
+ Experience with LRT track, commuter systems, and the understanding of the essential unique aspects and requirements of each preferred.
+ Thorough understanding of the concepts and criteria of track geometry design and the procedures to layout trackwork alignments. Including the ability to develop and analyze alternative track alignments.
+ General understanding of railroad operating methods, rules,and signaling.
+ Knowledge with railroad engineering records such as valuation maps, track charts, and lease agreements.
+ Experience with the railroad field environment and ability to safely and intelligently work on live tracks.
+ Familiarity with the components of the track structure and their function, and the procedures and equipment used in the various types of track construction, maintenance and inspection.
+ Experience with related railroad facilities such as bridges, grade crossings, grade separation, stations, and maintenance facilities.
+ Knowledge with the organization of railroads and agencies.
+ Ability to prepare budget and man-hour estimates for engineering work and direct staff accordingly.


Job Qualifications:
5 yr experience in all phases of railroad and track engineering and construction, including 5 years 'hands on' experience with track construction, maintenance, and inspection. AutoCad and Microstation proficient. Good technical writing skills. Familiarity with railroad standards, engineering records, operating concepts, and the operating railroad environment. BS Civil Engineering or similar required, California Registration preferred and or Nevada.
- Cadd proficient includes the ability to effectively use InRoads software and other design software to produce geometric designs, design and quantity calculations, and finished project drawings.
