Safety Engineer

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES o Implement the standards contained in the Westinghouse "Codes of Business Ethics & Conduct and Defense Industry Initiatives". Insure that all employees reporting to this position are informed about the standards and related policies, and enforce them within this supervised activity.

1. Plans, organizes and manages all phases of the PaR Safety Program. Working closely with Westinghouse EHS management, implement site, business unit, and company programs in accordance with federal, state and local health, safety and environmental requirements.

2. Coordinate/perform industrial hygiene, safety and environmental surveys to determine compliance with regulatory criteria relating to employee exposure and environmental discharges involving hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

3. Advises and coaches employees on technical aspects of occupational safety practices and hazardous materials used in the work place. Maintains a visible, proactive approach with the PCI workforce and responds appropriately to employee concerns. Ensure appropriate workforce instruction and training programs.

4. Interface with appropriate departments to develop solutions to work place hazards and exposures. Coordinate workplace accident investigations. Implement accident prevention programs which lead to reductions in Worker's Compensation costs.

5. Maintain awareness and competency in OSHA, EPA and DEP issues and regulations. Coordinate site safety audits and inspections.

6. Maintain PAR site EHS programs in accordance with local, state, federal and Westinghouse standards.

7. Coordinate fire prevention, including emergency response function and activities.

8. Technical advisor for behavioral safety and human performance observation processes.

9. Report Westinghouse EHS safety measures and goals. Technical advisor for measures and goals.

Maintain proactive and visible support position in the implementation of related programs.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
I. KNOWLEDGE
Extensive knowledge and application of Federal and State occupational safety, health and environmental laws and a good understanding of company processes, proedures and programs.

Bachelor's degree in Construction or Occupational Health, Safety, 3 years of progressive management experience in health, safety and environmental compliance areas or any acceptable combination of education, training or experience. Construction safety experience highly desired.

Certification in safety, industrial hygiene, fire fighting or emergency response desireable.

Identify problems of probable hazard isolation in non-conventional situations, comprehensive investigation and analysis, identification and assessment of hazard control and effective dissemination of site procedures.

Exercise discretion and judgment in defining probable hazard, analyzing and integrating information and reaching conclusions.

Receive direction on results expected and unusual features; results reviewed for overall accomplishment and soundness of judgment.

Prepare audit and inspection results in a manner than provides a framework for implementation of actions by management teams.

Bachelor's degree in Health, Safety or Environmental Compliance plus 3 years of hands-on experience in health, safety and environmental compliance, construction safety, or any acceptable combination of education, training or experience.
