Beginning in Spring 2006, our Ashburn facility will be moving to a new building located in Herndon, VA. Seeking a highly experienced, hands-on control systems engineer to lead the development of advanced Pointing And Tracking systems for Free-Space Optical (FSO) communications systems. Responsibilities include leading the end-to-end design of PAT systems to meet stringent performance requirements, including analyzing and selecting sensors and actuators, designing compensator algorithms, and creating system simulations. Will lead teams of software and hardware engineers in the implementation of control system designs, and participate in field testing activities. Will provide critical content for white papers and proposals.

MS in a pertinent Engineering or Science field is required, with PhD preferred. The successful candidate will have participated in the development of high-performance PAT systems through successful field testing and deployment. Experience with formal systems engineering processes is required. Experience with the design and implementation of advanced compensation algorithms to address issues such as platform vibration, accelerating trajectories, and sensor noise is strongly preferred. Experience with inertial measurement and navigation systems, and optical and EO systems is preferred. Experience developing avionics systems is desired.

Most positions require candidate to have a current favorable Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI). Some positions will require completion of a polygraph examination.
