Senior Drafter
ALSTOM Power Inc., a world leader in the supply of power generation services and equipment is seeking a Senior Drafter for the Boiler & Environmental Plant Services group of the Power Services Sector. This position is located in Windsor, CT.
The successful candidate will prepare complex designs and drawings as required to fulfill engineering specifications and customer requirements. Provide assistance to senior staff involved in drafting related functions and recommend measures to improve operations and customer service.
Typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Follow standard drafting practices and review standard reference sources to accomplish design intent. Perform mathematical calculations, prepare sketches, drawings and reference notes to support final contract drawings.
Select most appropriate drafting equipment such as computer aided design equipment, related hardware/software or mechanical equipment to produce drawings in accordance with specified departmental procedures. Coordinate activities with other groups.
Review completed drawings for conformance to customer specifications, approved practices, standards and codes governing the work. Independently resolve problems or obtain assistance from more experienced staff to resolve more complex issues.
Assemble, check, obtain approval and distribute contract drawings as established in task assignment details. Interact with related groups as directed by contract instructions to transmit drawings, requisitions or related material in fulfilling specific contract requirements.
Participate in meetings and offer technical recommendations in such matters as developing new drafting strategies or in using alternative means of accomplishing drafting requirements.
May be responsible for instructing and training others in the technical details of drafting work.
Candidate should possess an Associate's Degree in Engineering or related field plus 3 to 5 years of experience, or a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.
Position also requires thorough knowledge of drafting and related practices to develop designs, drawings and layouts. Requires ability to recognize and resolve moderately complex problems, communicate effectively, adapt to changes and select most effective methods of accomplishing tasks. Errors may cause significant delays and rework and adversely impact programs.
Candidate must have the legal right to live and work in the U.S.
