Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of a Lead Embedded Software Engineer, the incumbent will serve as a member of teams of software engineers involved in the specification, design, and implementation of embedded software systems. The incumbent at times will provide technical direction to junior level software engineers. The software engineers will be engaged in developing and implementing innovative healthcare solutions in alignment with the Bayer Diabetes Care Division of Bayer HealthCare.

Major Tasks:
o Use modern computing system architecture principles in the design and development of software based products and systems in the embedded software domain.
o Translate customer and business requirements into detailed software product and system requirements and designs.
o Perform research and development activities with new technologies and algorithms to meet customer and business requirements.
o Integrate new, emerging, and existing technologies into software products and systems.
o Execute full life-cycle implementation of software products and systems utilizing a structured, documented software development process and generally accepted software quality engineering methods.
o Provide technical direction to junior engineers on design and development teams.
o Provide detailed input to project teams regarding the technical feasibility of proposed designs, technical risks, and potential mitigation strategies.
o Provide detailed input to project teams regarding estimated project costs, task lists, schedules, and resource requirements.
Participate in continuous improvement of software engineering processes.

Skills:
? Minimum of 4 years of Project Team Experience
? Minimum of 6 years experience in the design and development of embedded software systems on a variety of computing platforms.
? Demonstrate an understanding of communication protocols.
? Experience in real-time embedded systems and more than one RTOS.
? Experience with algorithm development.
? High degree of skill in C.
? Skill in an assembly language.
? Experience in interfacing with and controlling various hardware systems.
? Strong User Interface experience and design skills.

Highly Desired Skills:
? DSP and PDA/Mobile/Wireless system design experience.
? Medical device product design experience.
? Experience working in an environment that follows a highly structured software development process model such as CMM.
? Experience with FDA procedures, processes, and/or audits.
? Experience with UML.
? Experience with Test Driven Design and /or Design For Test.
? Experience with automated testing tools.
? Experience with Linux.

Must have excellent technical, non-technical, written, and spoken communication skills. Must work well in teams.

Education & Typical Experience:
Typical education would be a Bachelor's Degree in Computer science, Electrical engineering, or equivalent technical discipline with 10+ yrs. experience.
