Senior Engineer

Primary Duties: Provide technical support to government contract valued at $800k to $4M.
Duties will also have a major impact on the development of new technologies that can impact the visibility, competitiveness, revenues and profits of Spectrum Brands.

Staff: One or more engineers, technologists and engineering assistants, as assigned

BASIC FUNCTION:
? Evaluate new battery product feasibility and alternatives. Establish technical justification, objectives, specifications and timetable.
? Qualify and recommend new battery product technology. Plan and coordinate engineering activities to assure implementation of project goals and timeline. Develop project plan, performance validation and qualification plan including experimental approach, debug methodology and capability study that comply with Corporate quality requirements.
? Identify and propose projects to develop new battery product technology. Technology may include processing requirements, new equipment, alternate material characteristics oe new way of configure the design. Demonstrate manufacturing feasibility by providing technical justification with prototype manufactured on pilot or production equipment. Direct external development work through outside vendors and with inside engineering resources according to project goals and timeline.
? Interface with Product Development groups to ensure smooth transition of product technologies per business plan.
? Review competitive technology. Identify threats and evaluate opportunities for Spectrum Brands.
? Serve as liaison to Marketing, Sales and Management customers of the Technology center. Provide technical support as needed. Provide consultation and advise on solution for technical issues.
? Provide monthly and progress reports on all aspects of technology development within area of responsibility to manager or department director.
? Review patents, relevant journals and proceedings to determine if new techniques used by competitors or related industries are of interest or threat to Spectrum Brands.
? Implement practices and procedures, which comply with Corporate Quality systems and Safety procedures.
? Demonstrate active support of new technology for technology center, corporate vision and activities toward Spectrum Brands quality initiatives.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB:
Provide staff with appropriate supervision, technical guidance and training to perform effectively and efficiently. Ensure that equipment-materials and processes are sufficient in capability and capacity to meet program goals and objectives. Supervision to be received includes general guidance provided in objective oriented terms. Work is reviewed in term of meeting the MBO requirements and annual performance appraisal.

? Create new generation of products and equipment for future technology growth
? Actively involved in the planning of future technologies for Technology center

QUALIFICATION
B.S. degree with 5-7 years of experience in Science or Engineering are required. Strong leadership and communication skills. Self-driven and hand-on ability. Knowledge of commercial battery systems, battery-manufacturing processes, testing protocols and basic product qualification requirement. May need to have CAD and experimental design capability. Have had extensive experience working with outside vendors.
