The Dow Chemical Company has an opening for a Senior Improvement Engineer at its Pittsburg, CA facility. Pittsburg is a world-scale, Halopyridine manufacturing complex.

 

The Senior Improvement Engineer will provide plant level improvement support, utilizing the company work processes to gather data, complete plant performance gap analysis, evaluate improvement opportunities, and implement selected business supported projects.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

 

1.  Partner with Plant Operations, the Technology Center, and others (Engineering, R&D, Regulatory, etc.) to secure process data for identification of technology gaps and improvement opportunities meeting the business strategies and plant goals.

2.  Partner with the Technology Leader to validate and define/charter improvement opportunities using global tools, and assist in developing the Plant Specific Technology Plan.

3.  Fill various Project Management/Manufacturing Representative, and other roles on small projects utilizing Global Project Methodology or Six Sigma.  Manage implementation of improvements into the production facility utilizing Global Management of Change process.  Assist in the development and maintenance of operating discipline documentation and its use.

4.  Participation on the Plant Improvement Team, and other functional teams as necessary.

 

Additional  Responsibilities include: Manage and lead the development of the plan to define the process technology and the capital and operating cost required to support the business opportunity that a project will enable. Manage the preparation of the Project Execution Plan. Prepare and submit the Authorization Packages. Manage the design and construction of the project to ensure the facilities and equipment are engineered and built according to the key project plans and within the authorised schedule and cost limitations. Control the cost and timing of the project to keep expenditures and schedules within the limits authorized by the business. Ensure that all stakeholders understand and support the goals and objectives. Manage the start-up of the new facilities and the project closure activities in a safe and timely manner.

Bachelor Degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering is required.

 

At least six (6) years of work experience within a manufacturing plant is required.

 

Prior experience in project management is preferred, but not required.

 

Six Sigma certification is preferred, but not required.

 

The incumbent must get familiar with the technology and have demonstrated high initiative, the ability to work independently, and strong technical skills. 

She/He must be a team player able to work equally well with operations, engineering and craftsmen to meet the team's and plant's objectives of operation improvements and to increase the asset utilization. 

 

Work during off-hours and weekends is sometimes required during plant turnarounds or upsets

 

Travel requirements are minimal.
