Job Description:

 

San Diego based SCHOTT Magnetics seeks a senior level magnetics design engineer in its Minnesota Sales and Engineering office. The candidate must have strong electrical engineering technical skills, have strong written and oral communication skills and operate comfortably with people from different cultural backgrounds. Other attributes desired include being self directed, confidence, good with relationships, organized and possessing a strong sense of urgency.  Ideal candidate?s experience would cover a broad spectrum of magnetics products and would include industry knowledge of standards including those of various safety agencies and military standards. The candidate who comes with a strong contact base among design engineers in potential customer environments would be a plus, as would communication capability in Chinese or Spanish. 

 

Job function and reporting responsibilities: Candidate will report to the Director of Engineering located in Canby, Minnesota. Job functions would include assisting growth in sales through standard product development, customer design development, outsourcing product development, and prototype and sample development. Some assistance would be required in transitioning new products to production. The engineer would be responsible for developing and maintaining customer engineering contacts, which are responsible for new designs in their companies. Candidate will at times assist in driving labor and material cost reductions through re-engineering. Occasional travel to domestic and international customers, vendors and manufacturing sites may be required.

 

Professional qualifications: Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering or equivalent with a minimum of 3-5 years of design experience. Specific knowledge and experience of designing magnetics for switching power supplies is a must. The qualified candidate must also have specific knowledge and experience designing magnetics for a wide variety of applications i.e. Medical, Digital Audio, Specialized Power and etc.  Must be literate with MS office suite and either Solidworks, AutoCad or Auto-sketch.
