WFI is seeking a Senior Network Architect who will aid in the proposal, design, and deployment of these networks with particular emphasis on IP design, engineering, product evaluation, OSS and all network components. Candidate will be involved in all aspects of the delivery of a turn key product for the client from proposal support through delivery and acceptance. Must have deep understanding and experience of IP from an ISP point of view as well as strong entrepreneurial focus where new technology deployments are concerned. Job Summary:  The Sr. Network Architect is responsible to for the technical design and architecture of the projects within the San Diego ENS division. They will assist or lead efforts associated with proposals, customer requirements, project architectures and designs, product selection, technical issue resolution, and senior architectural design and support for other engineers.

 

The networks include municipal WiFi, mesh networks using 820.11b/g technology, IP based networks for data and voice services, and capacity design and traffic sizing of networks. They will take technical ownership of a project from the concept, including the proposal bidding process, to the hand off to the technical implementation team.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Define the requirements and establish a network architecture to satisfy all the network requirements.Perform core network design using GIS studies, propagation models, RF and automated design tools.Establish a clear demarcation point and produce a responsibilities matrix between WFI and customer.Create sufficient design for routing, addressing and configurations to adequately address customer concerns and requirement for network performance.Define the test requirements and a test acceptance methodology to be included in the technical proposals.Provide the lead on technical proposals and customer interface to sell off the network design. </LI>

 

Education and/or Experience:  BSEE or equivalent is required.  A Masters degree in engineering is preferred.  At least 5 years of IP based network design or related work experience, plus 5 years of management level experience.  Mesh network design, ISP experience and knowledge, back office protocols, traffic shaping and authentication is a plus.

 

Work Environment:  The employee will be required to travel extensively >33% of the time and may spend up to 6 months on a project.  Field work for them will be site survey, customer sites or working in clean, safe environments. The employee will likely be placed in a project office while spending a significant portion of his/her time working at network control sites, equipment IDFs, and customer premises. The work environment characteristics are representative of those of an employee encounters while performing essential functions of the job in a typical office/network site situation. Able to work sitting or standing at desk and operate a computer via standard input devices such as using a keyboard and reading information on a monitor up to 8-10 hours a day.  The employee may be required to move measurement equipment up 10 lbs.
