Senior Nuclear Engineer - Probabilistic Risk Assessment

Job Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, a California Professional Engineering License, and 12 or more years of engineering experience. Additionally, must have a minimum of 4 years experience in applying Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) technology to the design, maintenance, and operation of nuclear power plants. The candidate must have thorough knowledge of classical and Bayesian probability theory, probability distributions, uncertainty analysis development, Boolean algebra, fault tree analysis, and human reliability analysis. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate experience with Safety Monitor and WinNUPRA PRA software. Practical control room operations experience and familiarity with control room procedures and technical specifications are also required. Demonstarted ability to train site personnel in the use of PRA tools and information. Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills. Excellent oral and written communcations skills with the demonstrated ability to work effectively cross-functionally. Must have demonstrated strong team building skills and the ability for analytical thinking and judgment. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple assignments concurrently with timely completion of deliverables and adjust to changing conditions/priorities effectively. ANSI N18-1 requirements: Shall have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Engineering or the Physical Sciences and a minimum of three years of professional level experience in nuclear services, nuclear plant operation, or nuclear engineering.

 

Preferences:
Degree: MBA/MA/MS. Experience in Modular Accident Analysis Program (MAAP) thermal hydraulic analysis code. Experience in risk-informed applications of PRA. Experience in project management, including planning, scheduling work, monitoring progress, and reporting status.

 

Typical Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be assigned to the Systems Engineering Division at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) and will be responsible for supporting the maintenance/upgrade of the SONGS Units 2 and 3 Living PRA model and leading and/or assisting in risk-informed applications {Maintenance Rule (a)(4), Flexible Allowed Outage Times (AOTs), Mitigating Systems Performance Index (MSPI), etc.}. The candidate may also be responsible for maintaining/developing the SONGS Units 2 and 3 Living PRA external events and Level II/III model. In addition, the successful candidate may serve as Southern California Edisons (SCE) PRA representative on industry committees, steering groups, workshops, and conferences. Will require working with other Systems Engineering Staff and interacting with other SONGS departments including Design Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, Licensing, and Operations.
