Senior Project Engineer, Sales Support Lead
Our client in Philadelphia, PA is looking for the following:
Senior Project Engineer, Sales Support Lead
I. Essential Functions:
This position supervises the Sales Support Group, which provides technical and project support to the Sales Associates, Business Development and to our customers. This position works primarily on new business requests- both engineering assessments prior receiving a customer PO and new product engineering after we get a PO. The main functions include determining equipment needed, equipment purchase, equipment installation, component layout and line layout. The Sales Support Lead will review and assign all new projects and requests, supervise 3-4 Project and Tooling Engineers, and will also manage several major projects of their own, typically above $ 1,000,000.
II. Specific Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities:
? Initial Review of all new products and to determine appropriate project assignments.
? Holds project review meetings weekly and distributes metrics.
? Analyzes sales requests to determine equipment, tooling, or delivery systems needed.
? Performs Engineering review of all components for new jobs (size, capability of equipment, bar codes).
? Applies sound engineering principles to design new equipment, production lines and component layout, with a goal of designing a process capable of low defects (less than 1%), high uptime (greater than 95%), low waste (less than 1%), and throughput better than estimate.
? Conducts and/or participates in customer meetings and attends occasional off-site meetings. Interacts with Sales and customers to determine requirements for new products/orders.
? Schedules and leads internal review meetings to plan new jobs with plant Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Purchasing and Process Engineering.
? Prepares SOPs, line layouts, production line diagrams as needed.
? Management of the Equipment Acquisition and Installation Process Including:
o Specifies equipment needed, prepares RFQ for vendors.
o Obtains quotes from vendors.
o Prepares equipment/engineering estimate for project (to be submitted to sales), including scope.
o Develop design criteria and equipment specifications, including safety, regulatory and necessary performance criteria.
o Writes CAR?s (Capital Appropriation Requests) for new equipment, including researching the justification. Responsible for managing project budget and timeline.
o Orders equipment when approved.
o Writes protocols for URS? (User Requirement Specifications), SAT?s (Site Acceptance Tests), FAT?s (Factory Acceptance Tests).
o Responsible for getting all needed documentation to validation, and for determining (with maintenance and operations) the OQ parameters that validation should start with.
o Approves validation protocols and MPI?s.
o Participates in SAT/FAT as needed.
o Commissioning of equipment including all necessary change controls, training and tollgate reviews.
? Troubleshoots problems in packaging during launches; discovers causes of non-conformance and recommends solutions to correct.
? Responsible for the administration, implementation, and project management of assigned projects, including using standardized methodology.
? Researches new trends and technologies in packaging; evaluates and tests new equipment and processes.
? Coordination of outside design, integration, and equipment manufacturing services.
? Technically supervise and/or coordinate the work of engineers, designers, tooling designers, technicians, vendors and other professionals in the course of project delivery.
? Responsible for successful completion of SAT/FAT?s for projects that are being managed by an Engineer I or II.
? Approves documents written by Engineer I or II (URS, SAT, FAT, CAR ).
? Supervises 3-4 Project and Tooling Engineers.
? Mentors Junior Engineers in trouble shooting techniques and project methodology
? Approves all CAR?s submitted from Project Engineering.
? Plans Equipment Budget each Fiscal Year for submission to Director/Senior Leadership Team at site.
? Approve use of all vendors.
? Responsible for commissioning of all new equipment including all necessary change controls and tollgate reviews.
III. Position Requirements:
Education or Equivalent:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.
Masters of Science or Masters of Business Administration a plus.
7-10 years relevant experience in equipment purchasing and installation, process improvement, and Supervision of Technical employees.
Lean Six Sigma Background required.
Pharmaceutical and/or food packaging background preferred.
Knowledge/Skills Requirements: (List unique knowledge skills, or problem-solving requirements)
? Ability to prepare a project plan.
? Effective communication skills (verbal and written form).
? Effective at leading project teams and interfacing with customers and operations personnel.
? Fully competent in the use of computer software ? Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power Point.
? Ability to use Microsoft Project, Visio, and AutoCAD..
? Must possess and demonstrate motivational and leadership qualities.
? Must possess excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
? Must be well organized and detail and multi-task oriented.
? Knowledge and experience in cGMPs desirable.
? Knowledge of Six Sigma, DOE, and other trouble shooting techniques.
