Description Assists in the development of a knowledge management system. Participates on a team responsible for developing the ontologies that necessary for the performance of the knowledge management system. Solves scientific and engineering problems. Applies mathematical and computational logic theories to new areas of scientific investigation. Develops and tests formulas to distribute to engineers for use. Provides mathematical support to engineering and/or product teams. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals to perform a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Provides consulting services to members of management, the professional staff, and the customer in the analysis and design of programming systems, problem-oriented languages, management systems, scientific systems, and related areas of computational projects. Participates in the planning and monitoring of the design, implementation, and checkout of programming systems, and provides technical direction in solving complex problems. Performs technical tasks that frequently involve customer relations. Will also plan principles and procedures for accomplishing customer-programming studies, analyzing the objectives sought and the methods to be used. Develops analytical and computational techniques for solving problems. Assists in the formulation and design of a project. Provides technical direction, guidance, and assistance to assigned projects. Gives advice regarding the programming and analytical phases of development and researches problems. Develops mathematical models when required, conducting original research into modeling techniques when necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 Required Skills

Candidates for this position must have a Masters degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Linguistics or in a related area with a minor in Logic or, computer modeling. Experience in Computational Linguistics, Artificial Intelligence, or other areas within the Cognitive Sciences is desired. Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. Java) and of markup-languages (SGML/XML) would be an additional asset.
