Position is for a fully seasoned software engineer to design and develop software for embedded systems applications in conjunction with internal and external partners located in the Far East.  This engineer will work on small to medium sized software teams that are engaged in designing, coding, and integration of real-time embedded systems consisting of internally and externally developed subsystems.  Candidate will also be responsible for facilitating technical communications to / from external partners in Japan, sometimes in real-time video and audio conferences taking place in off-hours.  Ability to fluently communicate (both in writing and verbally) in Japanese is a strict requirement of the position.  The ideal candidate will have spent at least one year working in a technical environment in Japan.  If the candidate also has Mandarin Chinese skills, this is a definite plus.  It is expected that the candidate will travel to Japan one to two times per year.



7 – 10 years of software development experience

5+ years C or C++ coding experience in an embedded systems / real-time environment

Demonstrated ability to design and develop software in a real-time operating system environment, including hardware / software integration

Must have lived and worked in Japan for at least one year

Must be capable of speaking and reading Japanese fluently, proficiency with Mandarin Chinese a significant advantage

Bachelor’s (minimum) or Master’s in Computer Science and/or Electrical / Computer Engineering

Experience with source code management tools required; experience with ClearCase a significant plus

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate to multiple audiences

Familiarity with serial and / or Internet protocols (TCP/IP, HTML, etc.) is a plus

Exposure to Rational Unified Process, Capability Maturity Model, or equivalent
